Kicking Horse Canyon Cantilever Bridge

Kicking Horse Canyon Cantilever Bridge

Located between 6 Mile Hill and a rest area just east of Golden, this innovative cantilevered structure design widened Highway 1 to 4 lanes for greater safety and capacity, and reduced the construction cost by minimized the amount of blasting and rock excavation required around the Kicking Horse River.  Some of the challenges of this project included:

  • Winter work
  • Midnight pours
  • Tight timeline
